Băsescu Urges Unity in 2025 Election as Court Bars USR Campaign for Dan, Lasconi Sole Representative, Dan Open to Dialogue

Traian Băsescu has publicly urged Elena Lasconi and Nicușor Dan to quickly meet and agree on a single presidential candidate for Romania's 2025 election, emphasizing their responsibility to the country despite difficulties. Meanwhile, the Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled that the USR party cannot campaign for Nicușor Dan, upholding the Central Electoral Bureau's decision. This ruling establishes Elena Lasconi as the sole legal representative of USR, invalidating decisions made by the party's National Bureau. In response to internal party tensions, Violeta Alexandru has distanced herself from Nicușor Dan, refusing to campaign for him and criticizing what she called a "festival of democracy" within USR.
