Kyle Larson, who was leading the race at Iowa Speedway, unexpectedly pitted due to a possible tire issue on the right side. The pit stop, which was advised by his crew chief Cliff Daniels, resulted in Larson dropping to 32nd position. The tire issue was suspected to be from contact with Ryan Blaney's car. Despite Larson's reluctance to pit, Daniels insisted to avoid any risk. Larson had asked his team to look at his left rear tire. This pit stop was significant as Larson was the only driver to pit during this stage. Blaney continued to hold the lead with two laps remaining in Stage 1, after nearly contacting Larson with nine to go.
