Charlotte Motor Speedway has announced significant changes to the Roval layout ahead of the Bank of America ROVAL 400 playoff race. Speedway Motorsports is overseeing the reconfiguration, which will feature a longer straightaway through the infield portion and a sharper chicane on the frontstretch, resulting in a 2.28-mile course with 17 turns. The new design includes heavy braking corners and additional passing zones, aimed at enhancing the racing experience. The changes were influenced by feedback from racing legends like Mario Andretti, emphasizing the importance of braking zones for passing. The track will skip the blind right-hander in the infield and will feature a tight hairpin in Turn 7 and a hairpin turn in Turn 16 on the frontstretch chicane. The adjustments will be implemented before the October race weekend.
