Shawn Langdon was the No. 1 qualifier in Gainesville, with the top eight qualifiers including Langdon, Steve Torrence, Mike Salinas, Brown, Josh Hart, Billy Torrence, Doug Kalitta, and Tony Stewart. The season's opening Sunday race in Gainesville featured rookie Tony Stewart, the No. 8 qualifier, against Justin Ashley, the No. 9 qualifier, with Ashley winning. Tony Stewart had an impressive reaction time in his first NHRA Top Fuel Dragster competition but faced early elimination due to having to pedal his car after tire issues. Gaige Herrera, with a career final rounds record of 12-1, Erica Enders, now a Gatornationals winner by defeating Cristian Cuadra, J.R.
