Senators from across the Western United States are intensifying their calls for the Biden Administration to take decisive action against the ongoing severe drought affecting their regions. Senator Cortez Masto highlighted the dire situation at Nevada's Lake Mead and Walker River Basin, urging for enhanced protection of water infrastructure. Similarly, Senator Tester from Montana emphasized the need for preemptive measures to manage water scarcity in Flathead Lake. In Colorado, Senator Bennet collaborated with local water conservancy districts to bolster long-term water infrastructure plans. Additionally, representatives from Texas stressed the urgency of addressing the drought's impact on agriculture and local communities. Collectively, these efforts underscore a bipartisan push for federal intervention to mitigate the worsening water crisis in the Western U.S.
The West continues to be impacted by drought conditions. While we’ve made progress on water conservation practices, there's more work to be done. I joined my Western colleagues in pushing the USDA to make further investments to combat drought in states like Nevada.
“For South Texas, which is already experiencing dire drought conditions, it is imperative that immediate action is taken to mitigate the impact on the agricultural industry and our communities," wrote @RepArrington and @monica4congress in their letter. https://t.co/FMIH6uyyU2
I joined the St. Vrain and Left Hand Water Conservancy District at Longmont’s Union Reservoir to learn more about their long-term vision for CO's water infrastructure. Their partnership with @USDA_NRCS is helping to serve Colorado’s communities and protect our watersheds. https://t.co/X8d3fwV0JL
After last year’s drought, we have to take early action to avoid worst-case scenarios in Flathead Lake during summer months. I'm urging officials to take steps now that will better mitigate potential water shortages and put the region in the best possible position for the summer: https://t.co/3KufgJeEuT
When this ramp was built at Walker Lake, the water would've come up to our waists. Thanks to @Walker_Basin_NV we've made progress toward recovery, but extreme drought still threatens the entire basin. That's why I'm pushing the Biden Admin to take action now to protect our water. https://t.co/IwQtfFvD0T
Whether it's at Lake Mead or the Walker River Basin, we're seeing the devastating impact of severe drought across Nevada. That's why today, I joined @SenatorBennet and our colleagues to call on the Biden Admin. to do more to address drought and protect our water infrastructure. https://t.co/jiukUWVsH4
