The World Health Organization (WHO) is pushing for an international pandemic treaty that would grant the organization power over nation states during future pandemics. The WHO's call for urgent agreement on pandemic preparedness comes after two years of unsuccessful negotiations for a global accord on pandemic response. The 9th meeting of the Pandemic Accord International Negotiating Body is set to resume in April-May to finalize the agreement before the World Health Assembly. The U.S., led by Secretary Blinken and Secretary Becerra, is actively involved in negotiating an international instrument to enhance pandemic prevention and response.
