On Equal Pay Day, politicians and organizations across the United States highlighted the persistent wage gap between men and women, emphasizing the need for legislative action to achieve pay equity. Despite the Equal Pay Act being passed 61 years ago, women still earn on average 84 cents for every dollar made by men, with some earning as low as 78¢ for every $1. The gap widens for women of color, with Latina women earning roughly 46% less than white men. The Paycheck Fairness Act was a focal point, with many calling for its passage to strengthen equal pay protections and end wage discrimination. The White House noted that pay inequities cost women more than $1 trillion every year, underscoring the economic impact of the gender wage gap, with women losing more than $11K in lost wages per year. Critics, however, argue that the wage gap is a result of different work or terms of employment rather than systemic discrimination, with some suggesting the controlled gender pay gap is $0.99 cents for every $1 men make.
Today is Equal Pay Day – the day that marks how far into this year women have to work to earn what men made last year. And for Black women the pay gap is even greater. It’s unjust, unfair, and unacceptable. It’s time to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act. https://t.co/Bd4WLMjpqZ
Women make up over half of our workforce yet earn just 78 cents on the dollar compared to men. This #EqualPayDay, I joined our partners in labor to celebrate the progress we’ve achieved and lay out our priorities to advance equal pay for women in our city and beyond. https://t.co/x83NCAYqBZ
Women should not be making 84 cents on the dollar compared to their male counterparts. It’s unjust and unfair. As we mark #EqualPayDay, I am committed to passing the Paycheck Fairness Act and ending this discrimination now.
Today is Equal Pay Day, marking how far into this year women have to work to earn what men made in 2023 - & the disparity is wider for women of color. That's thousands of dollars of wages lost a year. I cosponsored the Paycheck Fairness Act because equal work deserves equal pay.
We celebrate #EqualPayDay because it’s unacceptable that women still earn only 84 cents for every dollar men make. We have to do better. It's time for Congress to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to ensure #EqualPayForEqualWork & close the gender wage gap once & for all.
Equal work demands equal pay, full stop. It’s long past time Congress closed the wage gap and passed the Paycheck Fairness Act. #EqualPayDay https://t.co/Q6s9B7w23q
Women and men with equal qualifications should get equal pay. This #EqualPayDay, I join my @DemWomenCaucus colleagues in advocating for policies that will help close the persistent wage gap.
Equal pay for equal work should be an obvious concept, but it's just not the reality for women in America. It doesn't just hurt them — it holds back our whole economy. It's time to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to close the wage gap once and for all. #EqualPayDay https://t.co/oA9LziM0IY
It’s #EqualPayDay & we’re still falling short on #equity. Women make 84 cents per $1 compared to men. The gap is wider for women of color & some lose +$1 million in earnings during their careers. We must do more to end the pay gap. Those doing the same job should earn the same. https://t.co/7HC0g6e3b5 https://t.co/b6Hqtb2ns4
In the U.S., women make, on average, just 77 cents for every dollar paid to men, resulting in a gap of $11,782 each year. That’s why I support the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would ensure that women can challenge pay discriminations & hold employers accountable. #EqualPayDay
Women still earn about 80% of what men earn in America — a gap that persists regardless of industry, occupation, or education level. Let's be clear on this #EqualPayDay — women deserve equal pay for equal work.
🧵(1/2) Today is #EqualPayDay. The day in a year when the average of all women must work to earn what white, non-Hispanic men earn in one. This disparity in wage equity exacerbates notably for women of color. We must call for change. https://t.co/AvGoqg5StO
📣 WOMEN DESERVE EQUAL PAY 📣 I’m proud to join @DemWomenCaucus in observing #EqualPayDay. Women make just 84 cents on the dollar compared to men. This disparity is harmful – especially for women of color. We must close the pay gap – for us, our daughters, & our granddaughters.
Latinas make 57 cents for every dollar men do. Native women make 59 cents. Black women make 69 cents. White women make 84 cents AANHPI women make 93 cents. Closing the wage gap is a matter of economic and racial justice. On #EqualPayDay we recommit ourselves to that work.

Women deserve equal pay for equal work. But the wage gap is real. Women on average earn just 84 cents on the dollar compared to men. I'm working to fight pay discrimination and finally pass the Paycheck Fairness Act in Congress. #EqualPayDay

82¢ on the dollar. That is how much women in this country make compared to men. The number is even more striking for Black and Hispanic women at just 62¢ and 57¢, respectively. Equal Pay Day reminds us of this unacceptable situation. Equal work must mean equal pay.
How it feels to be a Latina woman making 52 cents for every $1 a man makes. ⬇️ I'm proud to stand with @DemWomenCaucus in fighting for financial stability and fair wages for ALL women. #EqualPayDay @AAUW @EqualPay2dayOrg https://t.co/LmGrlY0tLe

#EqualPayDay recognizes that white women earn just 84¢ for every $1 made by men – a gap even wider for women of color. Republicans must join Democrats to enact the #PaycheckFairnessAct and finally guarantee equal pay for equal work – because when women succeed, America succeeds.

Today is #EqualPayDay - a day to raise awareness about the gender wage gap and cultivate collective action towards pay parity. https://t.co/5tW2Od65Ai

Every state & almost every Congressional district has a gender wage gap. Democrats are closing the gender wage gap and ensuring women have access to high-quality, high-paying jobs. Let’s make this #EqualPayDay the year we close the wage gap by passing the #PaycheckFairnessAct!

Today is not #EqualPayDay. The claim that women earn less than men do for doing the same work is a lie. If true, employers would just hire women and keep all the extra profit for themselves. Women earn less than men earn because they do different work or work on different terms.
Women make 84 cents for every dollar a man makes & for women of color, it is even less. On Equal Pay Day, I am a proud cosponsor of the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would prohibit wage discrimination based on gender identity & secure equal pay for all hard working Americans. https://t.co/3npc6QQw1R

Equal Pay Day promotes fair compensation, fights discrimination, and empowers women by closing the pay gap. https://t.co/glJ0WgbBKf
#EqualPayDay reminds us of the work still ahead to level the playing field for women. Equal work deserves equal pay.
Over the course of their lifetimes, women make hundreds of thousands of dollars less due to pay disparities. Women of color will make even less. The gender wage gap holds women back. It holds our economy back. On Equal Pay Day, it's time to ensure equal pay for equal work.
Today marks #EqualPayDay. Women still only make 78 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn. It’s unacceptable. Equal pay for equal work.
Right now, women earn just 84 cents on average for every $1 a man earns—and for women of color, that gap is even wider. #EqualPayDay is an annual reminder of this persistent disparity and the need to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act to ensure women are paid what they deserve.
In #MD05, women make $0.80 for every $1 paid to a man – and that gap is wider for women of color. I was proud to bring the Paycheck Fairness Act to the Floor, and although Republicans blocked it, Democrats will not relent in our effort to close the gender pay gap. #EqualPayDay https://t.co/vq1sqMCRu2
The Equal Pay Act was passed 61 years ago, yet women still earn on average 84 cents for every dollar made by men. On today’s Equal Pay Day, I’m proud to cosponsor the Equal Pay Day Resolution & the Paycheck Fairness Act to end the gender wage gap once & for all. https://t.co/AbIGd6tJbf

Another year, another #EqualPayDay. And women still make only 84 cents on the dollar compared to men. We can and must do better. So I’m joining with @DemWomenCaucus to demand we pass the Paycheck Fairness Act NOW.
Today is Equal Pay Day. March 12 marks how far into the new year female workers have to keep working to make what their male counterparts made last year, also known as the gender pay gap. Why is this still happening? 1. Systemic bias and the “caretaker tax” 2. No pay…
We're making progress, but we're not there yet. 💵 This Equal Pay Day, take a a moment to reflect on these numbers from @AAUW, which shine a light on the pay gaps that still remain between men and their women counterparts — particularly women of color. https://t.co/N0u9rgYZRY https://t.co/eQVPlDezKE
Honest work deserves equal pay. Today is #EqualPayDay & it’s unacceptable that many women in America earn less than their male counterparts are paid. Time to pass the #PaycheckFairnessAct to close the gender pay gap & strengthen equal pay protections for all Americans. https://t.co/1LFfF306YX
It's 2024. Women should not be paid less than their male counterparts—equal pay should be the law of the land. Let's pass the Paycheck Fairness Act and finally close the wage gap for women. #EqualPayDay
Pay inequity is a driving factor behind the fact that most families live paycheck to paycheck – we must recommit to fighting for equal pay for women everywhere. #EqualPayDay
On #EqualPayDay, we demand more for women. On average, women in the U.S. earn 78¢ for every $1 earned by a white man, with the gulf widening for women of color and LGBTQ+ women and part-time workers facing heightened economic insecurity. End discrimination; we need #EqualPayNY! https://t.co/7LHpycdNcn
Women in New Mexico and across the country deserve equal pay for equal work. Today is #EqualPayDay. The persistent gender wage gap holds back our economy and keeps money out of working families’ pockets. The Senate must act on equal pay reforms.
Today is #EqualPay Day, marking the point in the year that women must work to earn the wage of their male counterpart the year before. This is unacceptable. It’s past time to close the wage gap.
Today is #EqualPayDay. In #FL25, women earn $0.79 for every dollar their male counterpart earns. There is so much work to be done to ensure equal pay for women in America. I'm calling on Congress to pass the #PaycheckFairnessAct to eliminate workplace pay discrimination. https://t.co/vJK2AphE2C
Equal Pay Day marks how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year. It is simple, equal pay for equal work, which is why I am a cosponsor of the Paycheck Fairness Act to close the wage gap once and for all. https://t.co/DcLAyqi9hK
On average, a woman has to work through Mar. 12th, on top of all of last year, to make the same amount that a man earned in that same year. That's unacceptable. This #EqualPayDay, I'm continuing to fight for a very simple idea: equal pay for equal work.
It's 2024, and women still earn only 84 cents on the dollar compared to men. Women deserve equal pay, plain and simple. #EqualPayDay https://t.co/y5YwdH0qTV
Equal pay for equal work. This shouldn't be a partisan or political fight. America can't be at our best if half our talent is being held back. This #EqualPayDay, and every day, Democrats are fighting for a just economy that works for working women.
Women have to work fourteen and half months to earn as much as men do in a year. It's 2024. I'm tired of having to highlight #EqualPayDay. It's not that complicated: equal pay for equal work.
This #WomensHistoryMonth, let’s remain focused on advancing #EqualPay, so that all women receive equal pay for equal work. We have made progress to close the gender pay gap, but we have more work to do to achieve true equality.
Happy International Women's Day! Today, let's remember that women only make 84 cents for every dollar earned by men. We must recommit ourselves to the fight for equal pay for equal work & finally ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. https://t.co/tIto6lPJ5r
