A recent report by the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Strategic Competition with the Chinese Communist Party has revealed that DeepSeek, an AI tool linked to the People's Republic of China, is harvesting sensitive U.S. data and exploiting American technology. The committee warned that DeepSeek is not merely an AI application but a strategic instrument used by the Chinese Communist Party to spy on Americans, steal technology, and undermine U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence and technological innovation. During hearings, officials including Gregory C. Allen, Director of CSIS AI, and congressional leaders such as Chairman Jay Obernolte and Representative Brian Babin emphasized the urgent need for the United States to address the strategic challenges posed by China in AI. Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang also issued warnings about the necessity for America to keep pace with China in AI development.
