Trump Cuts $100 Billion Green Spending, Ends Digital Equity Act, Slashes $3.2B DOT Grants and $13.6M Labor DEI Funding

The Trump administration has initiated a broad rollback of several Biden-era programs, focusing on reducing federal spending on initiatives related to the Green New Deal, social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). The Department of Energy (DOE) is ending what it describes as reckless spending on partisan Green New Deal projects, which amounted to nearly $100 billion under the previous administration. The Department of Transportation has eliminated 3,200 grants totaling $3.2 billion that were allocated for social justice and DEI initiatives. Similarly, the Labor Department has cut approximately $13.6 million in DEI grants, including funding for programs supporting gender-expansive individuals. Additionally, the Trump administration has terminated the Biden-era Digital Equity Act, a $2.5 billion program aimed at expanding high-speed internet access to lower-income communities, labeling it as "racist" and "illegal." These actions have collectively resulted in over $2 billion in taxpayer savings within the first 100 days of the Trump administration. Energy Secretary Wright has also criticized the previous administration for rushing out $93 billion in green energy loans shortly before the transition, and the department is working to recover a portion of these funds. The administration emphasizes a return to the DOE's core mission and aims to stabilize the American energy grid through new projects.
