In response to the challenges posed by the Washington Bridge closure, the Small Business Administration (SBA) has set up a Business Recovery Center at Weaver Library in East Providence to assist local small businesses. Officials are emphasizing that businesses in Providence and East Providence remain open and are encouraging the public to shop and dine locally. In Chicago, Block Club highlighted over 130 shops where consumers can find perfect gifts, and in Rhode Island, there are 100 ways to shop and dine local. Nationwide efforts to promote local shopping during the holiday season are evident, with politicians and organizations encouraging support for initiatives such as #SupportLocalGems and #BuyLocalRI. They stress the importance of purchasing gifts from local shops, dining at neighborhood restaurants, and sharing positive reviews and social media posts about local businesses. CBS New York has also suggested five small businesses for last-minute holiday shopping to find funny and heartfelt gifts.
