The #LongCOVID crisis is gaining attention, with a call for a bold federal response and the advancement of bills like the TREATLongCOVID Act to address the condition. Lawmakers, including Representative Pressley and Senator Smith, are advocating for increased research and criticizing insurance companies for denying care. Recent studies, including one published in Science, have found persistent complement dysregulation with signs of thromboinflammation and systemic immune cell activation and inflammation in Long COVID patients. The NIH has invested over a billion dollars into studying Long COVID, and a @HELPCmteDems hearing was convened to hear pleas from patients and clinicians and to discuss accelerating research. Scientists have identified dysregulated crosstalk between cellular and humoral immune responses, and a new study could lead to diagnostic tests and treatments. Senator Markey and others are pushing for more investment in research, and efforts like Ground Truths are trying to pull together an understanding to protect from Long COVID.
Thank you to the panelists and every person who tuned in to the long COVID hearing this week. This serious issue has not received the attention that it deserves from the medical community, from the media, and certainly not from Congress. It is past time that changes. https://t.co/tDgsANCSZK

Excellent thread. Long covid, and post-acute syndromes of other infections, are serious problems. What's needed is support for more research to better understand why these syndromes occur, and how to better treat them. https://t.co/jt4ptGTAl1
So much is going on to advance our understanding and help protection from #LongCovid. I tried to pull it all together in the new Ground Truths (see profile for link) https://t.co/e1mG0EYQkt
A study in @NatImmunol shows a dysregulated crosstalk between the cellular and humoral immune responses in individuals with long COVID eight months post SARS-CoV-2 infection. https://t.co/RhDznaHSk5 https://t.co/Ik0z3pwlCj
Despite overwhelming evidence and personal stories, too many people dealing with Long COVID still have trouble being taken seriously or getting the care they need. I'm working to accelerate research on this issue and make sure patients can get much-needed care.

Hours after Congress members heard pleas from patients and clinicians clamoring for research funding into long COVID, scientists released a new study that could explain the mechanism behind the condition. https://t.co/4uvR1FanIH
Millions of people have tinnitus, a bothersome condition that causes ringing or other noises in their ears. There is no known cure. But a new treatment is reducing symptoms in many patients. https://t.co/xs9GK6jRnI

Long COVID is real, it is disabling, and it is affecting millions. That's why we must fund long COVID and ME/CFS research to better understand and treat these conditions. To all those struggling and suffering—we see you, we hear you, and we will take action for you. https://t.co/GzWv0sYi0o
Across Colorado and the country, people are living with and suffering from the impacts of Long COVID. Today we held a @HELPCmteDems hearing to learn more about how we can advance research to better understand and treat Long COVID.
Scientists identified a persistent change among people with long Covid that indicates part of their immune system may remain on high alert for months after infection. https://t.co/hH3XFkngeH
These insurance companies seem designed to figure out ways that they can deny care, rather than provide care. These stories illustrate what that means for people living with Long COVID. I’m grateful to advocates willing to share their deeply personal stories with the world. https://t.co/65Ysl1dpMy
One of the red flags about Long Covid is the fact that, before we even had a solid clinical definition of what it was, the NIH committed over a billion dollars to study it No one is going to get that money for saying "these conditions are not unique to Covid" https://t.co/XQuwLrG1d5

The #LongCOVID crisis is real and demands a bold federal response. That means using the power of convening to shine a light on it & advancing bills like my #TREATLongCOVID Act to help our #LongHaulers get the care they need. TY @HELPCmteDems for convening this critical hearing. https://t.co/9VxZJ7ZJYz
