Senate Democrats' immigration bill, led by Senator Schumer, failed to pass in the Senate. The bill faced criticism for allegedly making illegal immigration legal and failing to secure the border. Critics, including Senator Ron Johnson and Representative Desposito, labeled the bill as political theatre and a surrender rather than a solution. They urged for a vote on H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which aims to end catch-and-release, reinstate the Remain in Mexico policy, and stop parole abuse. The House GOP passed H.R. 2 over a year ago, but Senate Democrats have yet to bring it to a vote. FAIRImmigration also criticized the bill as a performative stunt.
In a desperate attempt to pretend they care about border security, Congressional Democrats and President Biden are attempting to revive their already-dead immigration bill. Democrats’ legislation is a performative stunt not a border security bill.
.@HouseGOP PASSED the most comprehensive border security bill in history over 1 year ago — H.R. 2 Senate Democrats refused to do the same. Democrats introduced a faux “bipartisan” plan after seeing their poll numbers drop. Their plan is a SURRENDER, not a solution. #PassHR2 https://t.co/YDkAnyQmqL
Even the lead negotiators voted against this bill, recognizing that the vote was not a serious attempt to secure the border by Schumer. It’s pure political theatre, and passing it would be worse than doing nothing. https://t.co/Slv6FJoabJ
Yesterday's vote on the fake border bill was Schumer engaging in political deception on immigration and border security. But Schumer could still bring H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, for a vote to: ✅End catch-and-release. ✅Reinstate Remain in Mexico. ✅Stop parole abuse.
Senator Schumer’s sham immigration bill failed in the Senate. Bottom line — this was a bad bill that made illegal immigration legal & did nothing to secure the border. How about a vote on H.R. 2 now, @SenSchumer?
