On February 19, the Supreme Court of India addressed several pleas related to the Sandeshkhali violence case in West Bengal. The court refused to entertain a plea for transferring the investigation and trial outside West Bengal and declined a request for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT) regarding the alleged sexual assault of women in the village of Sandeshkhali. Additionally, the West Bengal government challenged Parliament Ethics Committee notices related to the incident in the Supreme Court, which also halted proceedings of the Parliament panel against top Bengal officers. TMC member Kunal Ghosh responded to Union Minister Darshana Jardosh's and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty's statements on the violence, challenging them to impose Article 356. Advocate Alok Srivastava, who filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court regarding the Sandeshkhali incident, mentioned that the court did not take cognizance of the matter due to a similar issue pending before the Calcutta High Court.
