Rahul Gandhi Launches Congress Revamp in Gujarat, Aims to Empower District Units in 45 Days

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, embarked on a two-day visit to Gujarat starting April 15, 2025, to launch a pilot project aimed at strengthening the Congress party's district units. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to revitalize the party's organizational structure in the state, where it has been out of power for nearly three decades. During his visit, Gandhi addressed a district workers' convention in Modasa, Aravalli district, emphasizing the ideological battle between the Congress and the BJP-RSS. He stated that only the Congress can defeat the BJP and RSS, highlighting Gujarat's significance as the birthplace of the party and its leaders, Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel. Gandhi outlined plans to empower local district leaders, particularly the district president, to run their districts independently rather than from Ahmedabad. He stressed the need for internal changes within the party, including addressing destructive competition among leaders and ensuring local leaders are involved in ticket distribution. District presidents will be appointed within 45 days, and Gandhi used the metaphor of 'two kinds of horses' to illustrate the need for assigning the right roles to the right leaders. The visit follows recent meetings of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the Congress Working Committee in Ahmedabad, indicating the party's efforts to regain political ground in Gujarat. Gandhi's visit to the Swaminarayan Temple in Modasa also underscores his engagement with the local community. He pointed out the presence of BJP-aligned people within the party, suggesting a need to identify and distance them.
