Legislators across the United States are vocalizing their support for reproductive rights following the Pennsylvania Supreme Court's landmark decision that declared abortion a fundamental right under the state's constitution. This ruling has overturned a 42-year-old law that previously prohibited Medicaid from funding abortions. In response to the nearly two-year absence of Roe v. Wade, various lawmakers, including Rep. McGarvey and Rep. Joe Morelle, are calling for the restoration and protection of abortion rights at the federal level. Additionally, the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade has prompted actions such as Rep. Deborah Ross hosting a roundtable on abortion access, and Rep. Eric Sorensen supporting new legislation like the ACCESS Act of 2024, introduced by Rep. CaraveoMD, to provide grants to providers to expand abortion care. Senator Shaheen and Patty Murray have also emphasized the need to end the Global Gag Rule, which was reversed three years ago by the President, and pass the Global HER Act to stop using abortion care as a political tool and improve healthcare worldwide. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court's 219-page opinion has further solidified the legal basis for reproductive autonomy.
The fight to defend, protect & improve women’s access to abortion continues. Excited to introduce the ACCESS Act of 2024, and ensure the freedom to access abortion services without increased wait times and delays for in-state and out-of-state patients. 👇🏽 https://t.co/glKBAIAQ2m

The PA Supreme Court declined to rule on whether or not our state constitution protects the option to have an abortion. While abortion is still legal in our Commonwealth, this news should give us pause. We must pass state and federal laws affirming reproductive rights for all.

Democrats are united in the fight to restore access to abortion care and ensure it is protected in every corner of the country. https://t.co/KBlplC185i
When an opinion is more than 200 pages, sometimes it’s because there is a lot of nuance and caveats to it. @jeremyrroebuck, @SarahGantz, and @gill_mcgoldrick break down the complicated Pennsylvania Supreme Court opinion on abortion. https://t.co/nWDMsM3Mec
Today's decision by the PA Supreme Court shows the power the Equal Rights Amendment has to protect abortion rights. Imagine what a federal ERA would do. @Gillibrandny & I introduced our #ERANowRes urging the Archivist to finally publish the ERA & protect abortion nationwide. https://t.co/aYhnP7OHrA
Pennsylvania Supreme Court rules state Constitution provides fundamental right to reproductive autonomy. The decision overturns a 1985 case that upheld a state ban on taxpayer-funded abortion. https://t.co/zKYodGPSVu by @PeteHallPA
This is a great decision. Abortion IS a fundamental human right, and now it’s time to cement that freedom at the federal level so that every person in America has the right to access an abortion. https://t.co/p66MG9JBKB
Last week was the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. I'm carrying on the the legacy of Roe by backing access to safe abortions. One of the newest bills I'm supporting is @RepCaraveoMD's ACCESS Act, which provides grants to providers so they can expand care to more who need it.
Here's the PA Supreme Court's 219-page opinion declaring that (1) abortion is a fundamental right under the state constitution's right to privacy; and (2) abortion bans discriminate on the basis of sex under the state constitution's equal rights amendment. https://t.co/UxNRw59iIP
BREAKING: Pennsylvania Supreme Court says the right to an abortion is fundamental; overturns 42-year old law that prohibited Medicaid for paying for them: https://t.co/qujtx5kPfU
It's simple: Reproductive healthcare decisions should be between women and their doctors—not the courts. It's well-past time we enshrine the right into choose into federal law and restore a woman's fundamental right to bodily autonomy.
ICYMI- On the 51st anniversary of Roe v. Wade, I hosted a roundtable to reflect on the current state of abortion access & the future of reproductive rights. In the face of these unprecedented attacks, we will not stay silent. Abortion care is health care. https://t.co/WscyT0Ozaq
We've got to permanently repeal the Global Gag Rule and stop using abortion care as a political bargaining chip in our efforts to improve basic health care across the world. We've got to pass the #GlobalHERAct.
Three years ago, @POTUS reversed the Global Gag Rule – restoring access to reproductive health care for millions of women and families across the world. Life-saving care shouldn’t be turned off at the flip of a political switch. It’s time to permanently end the Global Gag Rule.
In the nearly two years since Roe v Wade was overturned, Kentuckians have made it abundantly clear that we don't want a future without the right to abortion. As legislators, it's up to us to restore, codify, and protect this right nationwide. https://t.co/2nXDTjYvT5
