Elon Musk on 17 June posted an image of a laboratory report to his social-media platform X showing that a urine sample taken on 11 June at Fastest Labs of South Austin tested negative for more than 20 illicit and prescription substances, including ketamine, cocaine, amphetamines and THC. He followed up on 18 June with a second report from a hair toxicology screen collected the same day, which also returned entirely negative results.
The Tesla and SpaceX chief said he released the documents to rebut a May investigation by the New York Times—and earlier coverage in the Wall Street Journal—that alleged he used ketamine, ecstasy and other drugs while advising President Donald Trump and heading the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk challenged reporters at both newspapers to publish their own drug-test results, while the Times said in a statement that nothing he has presented contradicts its reporting and that it stands by the story.
