Micron Technology has secured significant funding to expand its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities in the United States. The Biden-Harris administration, through the Commerce Department, has announced a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms to provide Micron with up to $6.14 billion in funding under the CHIPS and Science Act. This funding is part of a broader effort by the U.S. government to revitalize the country's technological leadership and boost domestic production of critical components. Micron plans to use this investment to build three new facilities, including a 600,000 sq/ft fab in Boise, and has also committed to a historic private investment of up to $125 billion, which is expected to create tens of thousands of jobs. Additionally, Micron has secured $13bn in total U.S. support to enhance its chipmaking capacity.
