Israeli Forces Demolish 90 Homes in Nur Shams, Tulkarem; Nearly 3,000 Destroyed, Two-Hour Evacuation Notice Given

Israeli forces have resumed extensive demolition operations targeting Palestinian homes in the Nur Shams refugee camp and Tulkarem area in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli military plans to demolish a total of 90 homes in the Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps, with the first 15 homes being demolished as of May 6, 2025. Local sources report that around 106 buildings have been notified for demolition, including 48 in Nur Shams and 58 in Tulkarem, with each building containing at least two homes. Residents were given only two hours to evacuate and retrieve their belongings before the demolitions commenced. The ongoing demolitions have displaced thousands of Palestinians, with reports indicating that nearly 2,984 homes have been destroyed in the Tulkarem and Nur Shams camps over the course of 100 days of conflict. The Israeli army has justified the demolitions by citing security concerns, claiming the camps have become nests for terrorist activity. In addition to the demolitions in Tulkarem, Israeli forces have also conducted raids and demolitions in other parts of the West Bank, including the village of Khillet al-Dab'a in Masafer Yatta, where 25 structures were destroyed, displacing approximately 120 residents. The operations have included forced evictions, military incursions into multiple Palestinian towns and villages such as Nablus, Hebron, and Ramallah, and confrontations with Palestinian residents and settlers. The situation has resulted in widespread destruction, displacement, and heightened tensions in the region.
