India has escalated its response to recent provocations by Pakistan, with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announcing the suspension of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor services due to heightened security concerns. The corridor, which links Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Pakistan to the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India, was closed following indiscriminate firing by Pakistan across the Line of Control (LoC).
Pakistan conducted a series of unprovoked drone and missile attacks on May 7 at 8:30 pm, targeting Indian cities, civilian infrastructure, and military targets. The Indian Armed Forces responded proportionately, with Wing Commander Vyomika Singh stating that Pakistan did not close its civil airspace during the attack, using civil airliners as shields. This action was condemned as reckless and irresponsible by India, endangering civilian lives.
The Indian military intercepted and neutralized many of the approximately 300 to 400 drones used by Pakistan in an attempt to infiltrate at 36 locations. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi noted that these drones were likely Turkish-made Asisguard Songar models, aimed at testing India's air defense systems and gathering intelligence. In retaliation, Indian forces targeted four Pakistani air defense sites, destroying one radar.
Further escalating tensions, Pakistan engaged in heavy-caliber artillery shelling across the LoC and used armed drones, resulting in casualties on both sides. Pakistan's actions included targeting Jammu with Hamas-style missiles, prompting a robust response from India, including Operation Sindoor, which targeted nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Indus Waters Treaty is currently in abeyance, and India is set to share its perspective on Pakistan's IMF bailout at an upcoming meeting.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, during a special briefing on #OperationSindoor, said that India detected, neutralised, and retaliated to Pakistan’s attempt to target Bathinda military station.
