The House tax bill, H.R. 7024, has sparked controversy as it includes provisions for illegal immigrants to receive child tax credit payments. Several Republicans, including Rep. Tiffany, Sen. Lee, and Rep. Biggs, have strongly opposed the bill, citing concerns about rewarding illegal immigration and expanding welfare benefits. They argue that the bill favors corporations over working families and weakens welfare work requirements. Despite some positive aspects for businesses, many lawmakers, such as Rep. Pallone and Rep. Takano, voted against the bill, expressing dissatisfaction with its focus on benefiting corporations over working families.
Last night, the House passed a tax bill that expands welfare benefits with virtually no limits, weakens welfare work requirements, and provides tax benefits to illegal aliens, all under the guise of “tax relief.” We needed much more opposition—especially from Republicans.
🧵 Last night I voted against the tax package. Here's why.
The “tax” bill that passed last night will stifle work, expand welfare, and even allow illegal aliens to cash in on the Child Tax Credit. No Republican should have voted for it. More with @MorningsMaria ⬇️ https://t.co/Nkfn3FBrii
I voted against tonight’s tax bill that balloons our already out-of-control welfare system. Here’s what this bill really does: https://t.co/DKYVrD29um
I voted against the tax package that came to the House floor tonight. I could not in good conscience vote for a deal that so lopsidedly benefits the biggest corporations while failing to ensure a substantial tax cut for American families. https://t.co/nQk9g3rJYm
I voted against the lopsided tax package because it benefits some of the richest corporations, but doesn’t do nearly enough for working families. I remain hopeful that after Dems reclaim the House, we’ll build on the good parts of this deal while letting the bad parts lapse.
I voted "no" because this fiscally irresponsible tax deal is too lopsided in favor of corporations and special interests while failing to provide equivalent support for working families. My full statement: https://t.co/6wZaFeHUPm https://t.co/bVc740hptf
I just voted NO on H.R. 7024. I cannot justify voting for a bill that provides giant tax breaks to the rich while decreasing the credits that helped lift over 3 million kids out of poverty. I will continue to fight for the full funding our communities deserve.
Democrats have shown that the best way to lift kids out of poverty is by expanding the child tax credit. I voted against the tax deal today because it falls short of what's needed to help lift low-income families out of poverty and gives lopsided benefits to corporations.
As a mother, today I followed my conscience & voted against H.R. 7024. America's working families deserve much, much more. Read my full statement here: https://t.co/ZT6mCGRCss
Tonight, I voted against HR7024. I didn’t run for Congress to support a continued expansion of the welfare state. While the bill has good components that will help businesses both large and small, there really isn’t any help for the true middle class. Additionally, it helps the…
This bill will be a huge expansion of welfare to illegals - while hollowing out the working class in favor of tax breaks for corporations that are selling out America. We cannot pass this bill. https://t.co/snr7oVbmWM
Refundable tax credits are welfare by another name. Democrats didn’t even claim time in opposition to this tax bill, but I did because I’m a hard no on expanding the welfare state. https://t.co/s80p8eLS6z
The Wyden-Smith “tax bill” that the House of Representatives is voting on today isn’t actually a tax bill. It is a welfare bill in drag. Here’s why 👇 https://t.co/ADrxsyBkJw
The Wyden-Smith Tax bill is a farce that will only serve to give more benefits to illegal aliens, distribute government handouts without work requirements, and continue the fiscal irresponsibility of the D.C. Cartel. I will be voting NO!
Congress should not be doling out welfare tax credits to illegal aliens. Hard no.
Bad process leads to bad policy. We should be voting on a bill subject to amendments that could make this tax bill viable. I will be voting NO. https://t.co/PWGALgT3oY
Taking hard-earned dollars from taxpaying American families and giving that money to illegal immigrants is anti-family policy. Republicans cannot support this. https://t.co/xOu6dHzYHu
BREAKING: Conservatives shocked and angered this morning with realization that big House tax bill would provide benefits to illegal aliens!
Illegal aliens should NOT be cashing in on child tax credit payments. Our tax code should NOT reward and encourage illegal immigration. This loophole needs to be closed.
