The U.S. House Agriculture Committee has passed a draft of the Farm Bill, officially titled the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2024, in a 33 to 21 vote. The bill has sparked significant controversy, primarily over its $30 billion cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), marking the largest SNAP cut in nearly 30 years, and its impact on climate-smart agricultural policies. Democrats have criticized the bill for rolling back climate-smart policies, deprioritizing certain crops, and adding $40 billion to the deficit while cutting $320 million in Minnesota's SNAP funding. Republicans have defended the bill, highlighting its provisions to protect crop insurance, invest in trade and research programs, and support rural communities. The bill also includes measures to enhance agricultural biosecurity and cybersecurity, and to protect farmland from foreign adversaries. Despite the partisan divide, some lawmakers emphasize the need for a bipartisan approach to ensure the bill's passage into law.
I worked to include priorities important to #IA04 agriculture in the Farm Bill. We lowered the cost of crop insurance for the next generation of farmers, funded animal disease prevention initiatives, cut wasteful spending from the SNAP program, and invested in agricultural R&D.
🚨The Farm Bill that we just passed out of @HouseAgGOP includes my FARMLAND Act! This bill will help keep China and our foreign adversaries away from our farmland by requiring reporting on farmland owned by our adversaries & imposing penalties on those who falsify documentation.
This bill creates centers of excellence at our land grant universities that focus on agricultural biosecurity, cybersecurity, digital agriculture, and foreign animal diseases. Our adversaries are constantly trying to exploit and compromise our nation’s most important industry,… https://t.co/4lzTH2zsKc
The House #FarmBill is attempting to roll back nutrition and labor protections. Thanks to the @HouseAgDems who stood up for the individuals and families struggling to buy sufficient, healthy meals and focused on real solutions for families, children, workers and rural communities…

A busy week in Congress! ✅ Voted for the Federal Disaster Tax Relief Act ✅ Fought for South Texas veterans on the House Appropriations Committee ✅ Fought for colonias and border communities in the Farm Bill Watch ⬇️ https://t.co/MGEZa4Joit
A Farm Bill that will never become law won’t help a single Minnesotan. I’m disappointed that Washington Republicans turned the Farm Bill – which is usually a place for bipartisanship – into just one more political football. Farmers need a Farm Bill that is truly bipartisan.
The House Committee on Agriculture is done with the #FarmBill. Here’s what the Senate should do: https://t.co/Lcg7WF5Tc3
The Farm Bill shouldn't choose between supporting farmers and the families they feed. But the current House draft includes the largest SNAP cut in decades. @HouseAgDems and I will never stop fighting to defend the nutrition programs that nearly 10% of the Central Coast rely on. https://t.co/21pWZp6BTe
The 2024 farm bill would have made the largest cut to SNAP in nearly 30 years. At yesterday's markup, I voted to protect food access for millions of Americans, emergency disaster aid for farmers, and historic Inflation Reduction Act investments in climate-smart agriculture.
Our farmers asked, and we listened. I’m proud to fight for Western New York and the Southern Tier to have a seat at the table through the 2024 Farm Bill process, securing provisions to support our dairy farmers, grape growers, and maple producers. #NoFarmsNoFood https://t.co/pJfQH3jhyB
Early this morning, I voted to advance the Farm Bill from the House Agriculture Committee. I plan to continue to work in a bipartisan fashion to get a Farm Bill passed and signed into law. https://t.co/sJU8c59FKN
The 2024 Farm Bill prescribes necessary updates to ag and rural America programs to keep up with inflation and new technology. The bill text contains dozens of my priorities for South Dakota and our ag producers and I am proud it passed @HouseAgGOP. https://t.co/KPou0wJEcd
The Farm Bill is vital for American agriculture. By fully funding crop insurance protections, opening new export markets for #IA04 agriculture, and investing in cutting-edge agricultural R&D, we can strengthen our national, energy, and food security. https://t.co/lUxFXAFzA7

Chairman Thompson's partisan farm bill slashes SNAP funding by $30 Billion. We need a bipartisan bill that combats hunger and provides food assistance to millions of low-income families. The American people cannot afford another cruel Republican agenda. https://t.co/DtsDEP3lTy
This week the House Armed Services Committee considered the Fiscal Year 2025 National Defense Authorization Act. 📺 Check out my weekly recap: https://t.co/vxqOOOdh3m
Last night we successfully marked-up and passed a farm bill out of committee. In Arkansas, agriculture is a way of life and a huge economic driver. The farm bill provides a necessary safety net for those who work diligently to feed and clothe the world. #FarmBill https://t.co/RDyeEYN7T3
My bill will prepare for, respond to, and prevent costly flooding. This legislation makes several fixes that will help rural communities better leverage USDA resources so we can protect people, property, and our communities. Excited to have it in our @HouseAgGOP 2024 #FarmBill… https://t.co/l8JnDZQ3PY
Big news! The Southern Border Farms and Ranchers Protection Act (H.R. 6921) is included in the base text of Farm Bill! This vital legislation supports agricultural producers along the southern border of Texas. #FarmBill #SupportFarmers TexasAgriculture https://t.co/bnEXWg8B2B
"To secure so many critical wins in this base text for Florida farmers, ranchers, and producers is a big relief. Florida will remain a strong and competitive production agriculture state because of this work," says @RepKatCammack of the #FarmBill. https://t.co/BCkijcfpGi https://t.co/xNY7a9E8dE
I’m glad to see that the Farm Bill passed out of the House Ag Committee with bipartisan support. Alabama farmers need a strong farm safety net, and this bill is a step in the right direction. Hopefully this will spark Senate Ag to make some progress. https://t.co/okBwYXKVqM
When crafting the #FarmBill, SW WA farmers and working families need to be at the table, not on the menu. Today, I voted against a flawed bill that would slash SNAP, ignore local priorities, and undercut resources growers rely on to respond to extreme heat and drought. ⬇️ https://t.co/fYwZpJyBdY

To truly support Kansas’ agricultural economy, we must put Kansans first, stop playing political games, and promote a broadly bipartisan Farm Bill that can realistically make it across the finish line. See my statement on the mark-up of the Farm Bill in the U.S. House…
🚨 Great news! The Cattle Fever Tick Eradication Program Enhancement Act is included in the base text of the Farm Bill! 🐄 This initiative is essential to protect our cattle industry and support our hardworking producers. #FarmBill #SupportFarmers https://t.co/9cTyLOzPVK
The LIP Improvement Act passing through @HouseAgGOP as part of the Farm Bill is good news. South Dakota farmers and ranchers work hard to produce quality livestock. (1/2)
The House GOP Farm Bill passed out of committee yesterday—a bill that not only cuts SNAP and starves families, but also balloons the deficit. I’ve made it very clear that I will block ANY legislation that puts SNAP at risk. Zero exceptions. https://t.co/VfqoCC7NP3
Senate Democrats’ farm bill keeps farmers farming, keeps families fed, and keeps rural communities strong. It’s a stark contrast to the GOP’s partisan hitjob that guts SNAP, the program people rely on to feed their families. https://t.co/KnJu4mwsNu
Fortunately there is a strong bill in the Senate that does not fail our farmers like this one does. Now we must move forward with good faith, bipartisan negotiations to seize this once-in-5-years opportunity. https://t.co/Jl7ZTDzraF
ICYMI: the GOP Farm Bill that passed our committee last night is not a bill I can support. It guts many of our climate priorities, cuts funding for hungry families and seniors, and does not give farmers impacted by PFAS contamination the help they need. https://t.co/XheFKk2wiN
Farmers & farm families with disabilities face unnecessary barriers on the job and in their communities. My bill breaks down barriers & empowers rural Americans with disabilities to make a living. Pleased to have such important legislation in our bipartisan @HouseAgGOP 2024… https://t.co/VOtOYp6562

The Farm, Food, & National Security Act protects crop insurance, invests in trade & research programs, & conducts oversight to ensure food & farm policy are properly implemented. I was proud to advance this Farm Bill that works for Kansans & Americans. https://t.co/R9CRrmNuLB
Today, I voted against the partisan Farm Bill in the Ag Committee. There are many policies I support, but I couldn't vote for a bill that: ❌rolls back climate-smart ag policies ❌de-prioritizes midwestern crops ❌adds $40B to the deficit ❌cuts $320M in Minnesota SNAP funding https://t.co/FyzmhpZexP

🧵On the outcome of today’s Farm Bill Markup: The American people have been expecting a Farm Bill for over a year. In that time, farms were battered by floods, wildfires ravaged our Giant Sequoias, and families have struggled to put food on their dinner tables. (1/3)

With narrow majorities in the House and Senate, if we’re going to pass a Farm Bill into law, we will need to compromise like adults. My full statement after today’s markup in the House Agriculture Committee: https://t.co/GDMJDF5jsp
