The Biden administration, through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has finalized a rule aimed at phasing out gas-powered vehicles in favor of electric vehicles (EVs), sparking significant controversy among Republican lawmakers. Representative Randy Feenstra (IA04) criticized the move as forcing Americans into buying 'unreliable and unaffordable' electric vehicles, having previously sent a letter to the White House last month urging President Biden to reconsider. Senator Markwayne Mullin introduced the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act in response to what he called 'Joe Biden's radical EPA', aiming to protect consumer choice and free market competition. Despite previous testimony from EPA Administrator Regan against such a mandate, the EPA's new rule restricts the 'freedom of American drivers' to purchase gas-powered vehicles, according to Representative John Joyce. Representative Tim Walberg highlighted 'consumer needs, grid & infrastructure concerns, & costs' associated with the mandate. Zach Nunn criticized the decision as 'bad for Iowans, bad for the heartland, and bad for America', attributing it to out-of-touch bureaucrats in 'Washington D.C.'s ivory tower'.
Out-of-touch bureaucrats sitting in their ivory tower in D.C. are forcing their green agenda on Iowans. This decision is bad for Iowans, bad for the heartland, and bad for America. https://t.co/men4flgGk9
Despite consumer needs, grid & infrastructure concerns, & costs, Biden's EPA is proceeding with its disastrous mandate. EVs may be a good option for some, but Americans should have the right to buy whatever car best suits their family. https://t.co/gxhoFqQXwW
Last year, EPA Administrator Regan testified to @HouseCommerce that he did not support a mandate forcing drivers to purchase only EVs. Despite this testimony, the EPA has taken steps that would take away the freedom of American drivers to purchase a gas-powered vehicle.
Today, Joe Biden's radical EPA finalized a new rule in their effort to ban gas-powered cars and force a national EV mandate. I introduced the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act to reject this nonsense and protect consumer choice and free market competition.
The Biden administration is very close to finalizing a rule that would essentially force Americans to buy unreliable and unaffordable electric vehicles. I sent a letter to the White House last month urging President Biden to abandon this costly mandate on our families. #IA04
