Families Release New Proof of Life for Gaza Hostages Amid Cease-Fire Talks

Families of Israeli hostages on Thursday published previously unseen footage showing Bar Kuperstein and Maxim Herkin alive in Gaza as recently as April, the first verified sign of life the two men have provided in three months. In the brief clip the captives say, “We are dying here with a pulse. We don’t feel human,” underscoring their deteriorating condition underground.

The Hostages Families Forum said the release is intended to press negotiators to reach a comprehensive agreement for all remaining captives, warning against what it called “cruel selections” that could leave some behind. The group says about 50 Israelis are still held in Gaza, including Kuperstein and Herkin, and describes each case as humanitarian.

The video emerges as Israel and Hamas weigh a U.S.-backed proposal for a 60-day cease-fire that would free 10 living hostages and return 18 bodies in stages while Israeli forces pause military operations. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given the plan preliminary approval, and mediators expect Hamas’s formal response within 24 hours.
