Elon Musk said on Saturday that he has formed a new U.S. political organisation, the America Party, declaring on his X platform: “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.” The announcement followed a poll of roughly 1.25 million X users in which 65 percent backed the creation of a force outside the Republican and Democratic parties.

Musk wrote that the fledgling party will concentrate on winning “two or three” Senate seats and “eight to ten” House districts in the 2026 midterm elections, giving it potential leverage in a narrowly divided Congress. Political analysts note that viable third-party bids face steep legal and organisational hurdles, but Musk’s personal wealth and high profile could give the America Party an unusual head start.
