Elon Musk Forms ‘America Party’ to Challenge U.S. Political Duopoly

Elon Musk said on Saturday he has created a new U.S. political organisation called the America Party, pledging to challenge what he described as the country’s “one-party system.” The billionaire announced the move on his social-media platform X, where he posted that “today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

Musk cited an online poll of more than 1.2 million X users that showed a roughly two-to-one majority in favour of establishing a new party. He did not provide details on leadership, funding or whether the group has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, leaving its formal status unclear.

The tech executive was one of Donald Trump’s most prominent backers during the 2024 election, donating about $250 million to the campaign and later heading the administration’s Department of Government Efficiency. The relationship soured after Musk criticized Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a tax-and-spending package that independent analysts estimate will widen the federal deficit by about $3.4 trillion over 10 years.

Their dispute escalated last month when Trump suggested he might revoke federal subsidies for Musk’s firms and even consider deporting the South-Africa-born entrepreneur. Musk, accusing both major parties of fiscal mismanagement, said the America Party would focus on curbing waste and corruption. Political strategists note that winning ballot access ahead of the 2026 midterms will be the new organisation’s first major test.
