Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to initiate an investigation and a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the report of spurious drugs in Delhi government hospitals. This follows a report from the Vigilance Department highlighting the issue of 'non-standard drugs'. In response, Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj has questioned the delayed action and has ordered the immediate formation of an inquiry committee under the Health Secretary to address a separate case of sexual harassment of outsourced workers at Burari Hospital, as per the Health Minister's Office. Additionally, the Special Vigilance Secretary has instructed the Health Secretary to quantify and seize all drugs that have failed to meet prescribed norms. Saurabh Bhardwaj also directed the Secretary (Health) to make alternative arrangements for the 'substandard drugs' to ensure that patient treatment is not disrupted. Bhardwaj has publicly stated that he had previously written to the Health Secretary to audit the medicines, but no action was taken. Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality index (AQI) has reached a hazardous level of 500, which is equivalent to smoking 20 cigarettes a day.
