Columbia University has suspended more than 65 students on an interim basis following a pro-Palestinian protest that took over part of the school's main library during finals week. The university also barred 33 individuals, including alumni and those from affiliated institutions, from campus.

The protest, which occurred in Butler Library, involved demonstrators demanding that Columbia divest from Israel, bar police and immigration officials from campus, and reverse disciplinary actions against pro-Palestinian protesters. The demonstration led to the arrest of 80 people, with 19 men and 61 women involved, who were later released and issued desk appearance tickets.

During the protest, two security officers were injured, and the university's interim President Claire Shipman called in the NYPD to help break up the demonstration. The U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned that federal officials were reviewing the visa status of those involved in the library takeover.
