Book banning efforts have been increasing in the United States, with restrictions now extending beyond school libraries to public libraries. The American Library Association (ALA) has created a website dedicated to "Banned Books Week," highlighting the top 13 most challenged books of 2022, which are often claimed to be sexually explicit. The ALA has also helped draft a bill to crack down on bans of sexually explicit books. Banning books that tell LGBTQ+ or BIPOC stories sends a harmful message to students. Some argue that book bans are necessary to protect children from pornographic material, while others believe it is a false definition of book banning. Many librarians, such as Mychal Threets, have rallied in support of book freedom, as school districts and state legislatures attempt to establish bans on themes related to race and gender. Additionally, pirated ebooks are being used to train AI models, which has raised concerns among authors about unauthorized use of their work.

I'd love to see a good video/documentary about "Banned Books" that compares back and forth books the Left removed from curricula to books reasonable parents want removed from libraries and schools, but said video will be only publishable in a few places.
Newsflash: parents objecting to pornographic material in school libraries aren’t “Book Banners.” The entire conversation on “book banning” has taken place under a false definition👇 @maxeden99 @jaypgreene https://t.co/9vRG7tNrNW
What are some ACTUAL "banned books" - texts that an adult-focused public library would be 50+% likely not to buy for political reasons. Might be interesting to put a list on a $99 website - the first two that come to mind for me are "Irreversible Damage" and "The Bell Curve."
Tune in now: As part of #BannedBooksWeek, @AyadAkhtar and @ImaniPerry join The Atlantic’s @AdrienneLaF at @NYPL to discuss the dangers of book banning, how attempts to silence artists threaten democracy, and how people can fight back. https://t.co/K4IYe4LrNz https://t.co/BQHEfuKHkI

Efforts to ban books continue to rise across the United States. Can you find 10 titles that appeared on the American Library Association’s list of Top 100 Most Banned and Challenged Books for 2010 to 2019 hidden in this fictional text passage? https://t.co/1oV4wk3s6k

Two years into a surge in book banning efforts across the country, restrictions that were largely happening in school libraries, where they affected children, are now taking place in public libraries, affecting adults as well. https://t.co/fnN5p89IbE
Banning books telling LGBTQ+ or BIPOC stories sends a message to students that they don't belong in their own classrooms. Attacks like these have no place in our schools or communities. This #BannedBooksWeek, take action to #LetFreedomRead: https://t.co/UCq2VVk0EI
This week is “banned books week.” This is your periodic reminder that when they accuse us of “banning books” they’re referring to p0*nographic books which are offered to kids in schools across the country.
