The Biden administration has announced a series of grants aimed at enhancing the resilience of infrastructure against climate change and natural disasters across various states, funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Osceola County, Florida, will receive a $1.75 million USDOT PROTECT grant for transportation flood control studies in the Mills Slough area, aimed at making communities more resilient against hurricanes, specifically Hurricanes Irma & Ian. Additionally, a flood-prone highway in North Bay is set to receive federal funding for similar purposes. Illinois will benefit from an $8.6 million grant to upgrade sewer systems and protect homes from severe flooding, part of efforts to repair the Eisenhower Expressway. A northern Arizona county will get $15.5 million in federal funding to mitigate post-wildfire flood damage. New York is receiving over $112 million in grants to make its infrastructure more resilient to climate change, covering repairs and reinforcements of roads, bridges, and public transit. Colorado cities including Golden, Aurora, and Denver will also benefit from USDOT PROTECT grants, aimed at rebuilding essential roads and bridges and protecting properties from future flooding.
