Argentina has taken a new step in its defence modernisation drive, with Defence Minister Luis Petri signing a letter of acceptance at the Pentagon on 2 July to purchase U.S.-built 8x8 Stryker armoured vehicles for the Argentine Army. Petri met with U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth to formalise the agreement, underscoring the Milei administration’s intention to deepen security cooperation with Washington.

The document covers an initial batch of eight M1126 Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicles, part of a broader Foreign Military Sales package that received U.S. approval in 2020 for as many as 27 vehicles. The acquisition will give Argentina a modern wheeled combat platform and follows a series of moves by Buenos Aires to upgrade its land forces after years of constrained defence spending.
