The 2024 hurricane season has officially begun, with experts predicting an active and potentially record-breaking season in the Atlantic. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) anticipates above-average hurricane activity, with multiple major hurricanes expected. South Floridians and other coastal residents are being urged to prepare for the season by assembling emergency kits and making solid plans. Events and resources are being made available to help residents stay informed and safe. Increased ocean temperatures due to climate change are contributing to the heightened hurricane activity, which could bring winds in excess of 155 miles per hour. The season, which started this week, will last through November 30. This follows the warmest spring on record.
