The United States plans to impose new export restrictions on advanced artificial-intelligence chips destined for Malaysia and Thailand, extending its efforts to prevent sensitive semiconductors from reaching China through third-country channels.
People familiar with the planned rule said the measure would require manufacturers such as Nvidia and AMD to obtain U.S. licences before shipping high-performance chips to the two Southeast Asian nations.
