Philadelphia's asthma rate among children is almost three times the national average. Researchers suggest that air purifiers could help mitigate the impact of poor air quality in daycares, especially in vulnerable neighborhoods. In response, a campaign led by the Philadelphia Democratic Socialists of America (PhillyDSA) is advocating for better ventilation in Philadelphia schools. Several local officials, including Rep. Krajewski, Council member Nic O’Rourke, Rep. Fiedler, and Rep. Nikil Saval, have testified in support of this initiative. The Safe Air Campaign, supported by a coalition of 23 local organizations and 12 elected officials, is urging the Philadelphia School Board to install HEPA filters in classrooms by the next school year.
