A suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a Pakistani military convoy on 28 June in Mir Ali, North Waziristan district, near the Afghan border, killing at least 13 soldiers, the army said. Some local security officials later put the death toll as high as 16.

The blast wounded roughly 29 people, among them 10 soldiers and 19 civilians, and damaged nearby houses. The military launched a clearance operation that it said left 14 militants dead.
