Portland Antifa Militants Charged in July 4 Arson Attack After Month-Long Insurrection at ICE Facility

In Portland, Oregon, a prolonged series of violent protests and insurrections have been ongoing at the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility since mid-June 2025. Antifa militants have repeatedly attempted to attack and burn down the facility, leading to multiple confrontations with federal officers. Federal agents have made targeted arrests, charging at least 17 Antifa suspects with offenses including assault on federal officers, arson, and depredation of federal property. The protesters have established an encampment near the ICE building, distributing riot gear and recruiting participants, including vagrants, through free food.

The unrest has severely impacted the surrounding residential community, with residents reporting harassment and being subjected to loud noise and intimidation tactics throughout the night. One notable incident involved a disabled Black woman confronting the protesters, accusing them of terrorizing the neighborhood and stating, "You're worse than ICE." On July 4, Antifa militants escalated their actions by launching an arson attack on the ICE facility, prompting federal officers to deploy tear gas and crowd control munitions to disperse the rioters. The city and state officials have not condemned the violent extremism, and local police have often refrained from intervening in the protests. Similar anti-ICE demonstrations occurred in Los Angeles on Independence Day, where the LAPD reported multiple arrests amid mostly peaceful protests.
