Don Hasselbeck, Ex-NFL Tight End and Father of Matt and Tim, Dies at 70 After Cardiac Arrest

Don Hasselbeck, a former NFL tight end and father of quarterbacks Matt and Tim Hasselbeck, passed away at the age of 70 after suffering cardiac arrest at his home. His son, Matt Hasselbeck, shared the news and expressed gratitude towards the neighbors and medical professionals who attempted to aid his father. Hasselbeck's career spanned nine seasons in the NFL, starting with the New England Patriots who drafted him in the second round in 1977. He played six seasons with the Patriots, leading the team in receptions in 1981 with 46 catches for 808 yards and six touchdowns. Standing at 6' 7", Hasselbeck was an All-American at Colorado before entering the NFL. In 1983, Hasselbeck was traded to the Los Angeles Raiders, where he contributed to their Super Bowl XVIII victory, notably blocking an extra point in the game. He later played for the New York Giants in 1984 and the Minnesota Vikings in 1985, finishing his career with 107 catches for 1,542 yards and 18 touchdowns in 123 regular-season games.
