Kim Jong Un Justifies Sending 14,000 North Korean Troops to Russia's Kursk Region Under Defense Pact

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has declared that North Korea's participation in the Russia-Ukraine war is justified, describing it as an exercise of sovereign rights and in defense of a 'brother nation.' Kim made these remarks during an event marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany. Kim reiterated North Korea's support for Moscow and highlighted the ongoing validity of the mutual defense treaty signed between North Korea and Russia last year. He confirmed that he had issued an order to send North Korean troops to the Kursk region in Russia under this agreement. Estimates indicate that North Korea has deployed approximately 14,000 to 15,000 soldiers to Russia, with reports of more than 4,700 casualties, including around 600 fatalities among North Korean troops. The troops reportedly lacked armored vehicles and experience in drone warfare but have adapted quickly. Kim warned that Pyongyang would not hesitate to authorize the use of military force if the United States continues military provocations against Russia. Russia has confirmed the presence of North Korean troops in Kursk. Kim did not attend the recent Moscow parade, reportedly due to security and logistical reasons.
