Yuga Labs Hands CryptoPunks IP to Nonprofit Node Foundation, Original Creators Join as Advisors

Yuga Labs said on 13 May that it has transferred all intellectual-property rights for the CryptoPunks non-fungible-token collection to the Infinite Node Foundation, a newly formed nonprofit devoted to preserving and advancing digital art. Financial terms were not disclosed.

CryptoPunks creators Matt Hall and John Watkinson will return as advisors to the foundation, joining Yuga co-founder Gordon Goner and Art Blocks founder Erick “Snowfro” Calderon. Yuga Labs, which acquired CryptoPunks from Larva Labs in March 2022, will remain the collection’s largest token holder but plans to focus more closely on its Bored Ape Yacht Club and Otherside franchises.

Created in 2017, the 10,000-piece CryptoPunks series has generated about US$3.07 billion in lifetime trading volume, according to the foundation. Market data from CoinGecko showed the collection’s floor price rising roughly 5.2 percent after the announcement, underscoring expectations that nonprofit stewardship will provide long-term stability for one of the NFT market’s most recognizable assets.
