Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is making progress in his recovery from a thumb sprain but was unable to play in the team's recent game. Backup quarterback Brett Rypien started in his place. Rams head coach Sean McVay expressed hope that Stafford will return after the bye week in Week 11, but he did not confirm it. Rypien had an idea he would start throughout the week but only found out for sure on Friday. McVay indicated that Stafford's ability to grip the ball, not pain, was the key variable in his return. Despite the uncertainty, McVay sounded optimistic about Stafford's return after the bye week.
