The Green Bay Packers are set to have over $40 million in cap space at the start of the NFL new year, with significant savings from releasing David Bakhtiari and potentially Aaron Jones and De'Vondre Campbell. The team may wait to cut Jones with a June 1 designation to maximize cap savings. Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Raiders are expected to cut QB Jimmy Garoppolo, freeing up $19.4 million in cap space by moving on from WR Hunter Renfrow.
With #Raiders set to cut Hunter Renfrow today, he will end up collecting about $21 million of the extension Josh McDaniels/Dave Ziegler gave him in 2022 w/ 1 year left on his rookie deal. Renfrow had 61 catches for 585 yards and 2 TDs in 2 years since that extension
.@Raiders @NFL @renfrowhunter is on the street. Who needs a crafty; tough; slot receiver??? I want him in my receiver room. #BaldysBreakdowns https://t.co/WR2ZPyP58e
Reports out of Las Vegas indicate the Raiders may move on from wide receiver Hunter Renfrow. If that’s the case, wonder if the Colts might have an interest at a reasonable price.
Assuming Jimmy Garoppolo is an immediate release (not Post 6/1), the #Raiders will open up $19.4M of cap space by moving on from WR Hunter Renfrow & Jimmy G today.

An immediate release of Jimmy Garoppolo would free up $11.2M of space, while a Post June 1st Designation would open up $24M on June 2nd. Either way, it's $11.25M less because of his looming suspension. https://t.co/SrcOwFzyRc

The Packers cutting David Bakhtiari and Aaron Jones has NFL thinking about Aaron Rodgers and the Jets https://t.co/K0kOrotaaK https://t.co/PA0jjxalS5
A question yet to be answered is whether the #Packers will wait until Wednesday to cut Jones and do it with a June 1 designation as they are doing with Campbell. A team can do that twice an off-season. They would gain almost $12M in cap space as opposed to $5M if done right away.
The #Packers release of OT David Bakhtiari & RB Aaron Jones frees up over $26M of cap space in 2024. It's looking like a huge offseason in Green Bay in support of their new (long-term?) QB1.
The #Packers are expected to be more than $40 million under the salary cap when the NFL new year begins on Wednesday. They will have shed more than roughly $30 million in cap costs with the release of David Bakhtiari Monday and the pending release of ILB De'Vondre Campbell.
