Confusion arose during a recent game when there was a discrepancy over which players reported as eligible to the officials on a crucial 2pt play. Detroit Lions' coach Dan Campbell stated that the officials, including head ref Brad Allen, informed him Dan Skipper had reported eligible, not Taylor Decker. However, Decker insists he reported as eligible, while Skipper maintains he did not communicate with the officials, expressing his desire to avoid a fine. Replays suggest Skipper acted as a decoy without signaling his eligibility, whereas Decker did inform a referee of his status. Despite Campbell's pre-game discussions on reporting procedures, it appears there was a misunderstanding, as quarterback Jared Goff also confirmed Decker reported and Skipper did not, contrary to what officials declared.
Jared Goff: "Pretty confused. What I do know, and I don't know if I'll get fined for this. But I do know that Decker reported. I do know that Dan Skipper did not. And I do know that they said that Dan Skipper did."
And for the record, Dan Skipper says he didn’t report as eligible. “I didn’t say a word, and I’d like to not get fucking fined.” He left it at that, understandably. https://t.co/uAdwKiQwZu
When you look at replays closely it appears Skipper was being used as a decoy acting like he was reporting but never makes reporting signal. Then Decker comes over and tells ref he’s eligible. That’s what probably Campbell meant in post-game when he said he told refs before game
Dan Skipper says there’s not much he can say right now without getting fined. He was announced as eligible. He says he didn’t say a word to the refs. Taylor Decker says he didn’t get an explanation. Didn’t seek one out because he was hot and needed to focus on next snap.
Dan Campbell is saying Decker did report and Skipper failed to, even after Campbell went over and over it before the game. Yet now it looks like both did try to report and head ref Brad Allen did not see Skipper as he moved to tell the Cowboys who was eligible.
