The Carolina Panthers have signed former Bengals and Rams safety Nick Scott to a one-year deal. Scott, who played at Penn State and was drafted in the 7th round by the Rams in 2019, spent last season with the Bengals where he was benched. Scott is expected to be a strong backup for Fuller and Woods, contribute on special teams, and provide a big nickel option for the Panthers' defense. His ties to Panthers DC Ejiro Evero and def. pass game coord. Jonathan Cooley are noted.
As @josephperson noted, Scott is coming off a forgettable defensive season with the Bengals. Perhaps Evero thinks he can get more out of him. Jammie Robinson and Alex Cook flashed at times last year. https://t.co/duR0Hwev71
My read: Fuller is more likely the starter, but Scott is a strong player to back up Fuller and Woods, plus he’s going to be a staple on special teams based on his background in Cincy and LA. Plenty of starter experience, too. Gives Panthers a good big nickel option as well. https://t.co/nicioU7hn3
