This Pride Month marks 55 years since the Stonewall Uprising in 1969, a pivotal event that sparked the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. The Stonewall Inn, where the riots took place, is still operating and now features a visitor center next door to preserve its history. Additionally, the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center has opened on Christopher Street, though it is not affiliated with the Stonewall Inn. In Fort Lauderdale, the Stonewall National Museum has built a replica of the original Stonewall Inn. A long-vacant storefront that once housed part of the Stonewall Inn has also reclaimed its place in LGBTQ+ history. Furthermore, a resolution has been introduced to designate June 28th as Stonewall Day, supported by RepDanGoldman, RepRitchie, and REALPRIDELIVE.
