Cassie Ventura has formally asked a U.S. judge to keep Sean “Diddy” Combs in custody while he awaits sentencing on two federal convictions for transportation to engage in prostitution, arguing that the music mogul “is likely to pose a danger” to her, other trial witnesses and the wider community.
In a letter filed 2 July with U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, Ventura’s lawyer Douglas Wigdor said detention is mandatory under the Bail Reform Act after convictions for violations of the Mann Act. The request counters Combs’ bid for release on a US$1 million secured bond that would be backed by family members and restrict his travel to New York, Los Angeles and Miami.
A New York jury on 2 July found Combs guilty on the two Mann Act counts but acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and two sex-trafficking charges. The 54-year-old faces a statutory maximum of 20 years in prison; prosecutors have recommended a term of 51 to 63 months. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
