A 59-year-old MTA subway conductor was attacked and slashed in the neck during an overnight shift on a southbound A train near the Rockaway Avenue Station in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. The incident occurred just before 3:40 a.m. when the conductor, sticking his head out of the train cab window to check the surroundings, was assaulted in what appears to be a random attack. The conductor, a veteran of 25 years, credited a doctor on board for saving his life. Following the attack, the conductor received 34 stitches and has since been discharged from the hospital. The NYPD is actively searching for the suspect involved in this violent incident, which has also led to a temporary suspension of A and C train services. The MTA issued a statement indicating the suspension was due to running as much service as possible with the available train crews, which, following the attack, was none. No arrests have been made.
