The University of Utah's basketball teams experienced contrasting outcomes in their recent road games. The women's basketball team (Utah WBB) turned around a poor start to defeat Oregon, ending with a score of Utah 58, Oregon 48. Alissa Pili led the team with 16 points and 8 rebounds after being held scoreless in the first half. Matt Wilke and Ines Vieira also contributed to the win. Conversely, the men's team suffered a defeat against Washington, with a final score of Utah 43, Washington 62. Despite Deivon Smith's personal 7-0 run, the team struggled, particularly on defense.
Another rough showing on the road for the Runnin’ Utes, this time at the hands of Washington. https://t.co/rC8kVViR0t
MTO | 2H | 11:51 Utah 43 | Washington 62 Hunter Erickson with a massive airball before the timeout. He's not alone, but there's been a few of those shots this year for the Utes.
This Utah team has really struggled this year to stay in bounds. Not sure I've seen that a ton.
MTO | 2H | 15:25 Utah 37 | Washington 60 Not much more to say in this one, folks.
HALFTIME Utah 30 | Washington 46 Utah had looked better and cut the lead to 7 before letting Washington go on a 9-0 run. Usually a team doesn't shoot 62% for a whole game, but Utah needs a better defensive effort or UW will.
Too many second-chance opportunities for this Utes team — and then turnovers.
MTO | 1H | 3:30 Utah 30 | Washington 37 Much better team effort since the last media timeout. Utah has held Washington to no FGs in last 3:03 and has cut a 15-point lead to 7.
MTO | 1H | 6:20 Utah 20 | Washington 35 Deivon Smith heating up, but the defense is like Swiss cheese. Utah shooting 38%, Washington 78% — not gonna win much with that difference.
Deivon Smith on a personal 7-0 run, and that technical charged him up a bit. But Utah can't get any stops on defense.
Craig Smith finally calls a timeout after Washington goes on an 8-0 run, including back-to-back alley-oops by the Huskies. It's not been great for Utah Utah 10 | Washington 25
MTO | 1H | 11:48 Utah 10 | Washington 17 Utah is 2 of its last 11 FGs and shooting 27%.
MTO | 1H | 15:26 Utah 5 | Washington 12 I see the men taking a page out of the book of the women from last night. It turned into a win, but not a great start for the Utes
Utah trying to force too much to start and already have 3 turnovers.
Arizona leads 27-23 with 7:04 left in the first half. Bittle picks up his second foul.
FINAL Utah 58 | Oregon 48 Alissa Pili finishes with a team-high 16 points and 8 rebounds after being held to 0 points in the first half.
Utah should come away with a win with 24.5 seconds left and Oregon needing to play the foul game. But man, that was a rough first half.
MTO | 4Q | 4:49 Utah 51 | Oregon 43 Utah shooting a much-improve 48% in the second half and now has an 8-point lead. This team looks so much better now.
Utah now with a lead after looking more like a team. A Utah 3-pointer was the go-ahead bucket, and then Utah made 2 more field goals to take a 5-point lead.
MTO | 3Q | 4:50 Utah 31 | Oregon 33 Gritty type of game, but Utah is at least in a one-possession game and much more engaged in the game.
Much better start to the second half for the Utes, who have now cut the lead to 2 Oregon 29 | Utah 27
MTO | 2Q | 3:28 Utah 16 | Oregon 23 Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong for the Utes early. Matt Wilke kept Utah in the game, though, and then Ines Vieira chipped in.
Alissa Pili already with 2 fouls to start the 2nd quarter. Hasn’t been a great start for the Utes.
END OF 1ST Q: Utah 7 | Oregon 13 Matt Wilke on a personal 5-0 run to give a poor-shooting Utah team some life.
Utah WBB starting lineup on the road against Oregon tonight: 2 | G | Ines Vieira 24 | G | Kennady McQueen 22 | F | Jenna Johnson 34 | F | Dasia Young 35 | F | Alissa Pili
Utah isn’t the only Pac-12 team struggling on the road. But the Utes need solutions soon. Story by @brandonljudd https://t.co/2CWpG56mWe
