Several college football players have announced their intentions to enter the NCAA transfer portal as the spring window opened. Notable among them is SMU running back LJ Johnson Jr., who has rushed for 994 yards and 11 touchdowns in his career and has one year of eligibility remaining. Johnson, who also played at Texas A&M, is represented by Kyle Logan of Delta Sports Group.
From North Carolina, standout defensive end Beau Atkinson has entered the portal. Atkinson, who recorded 7.5 sacks, 12.5 tackles for loss, and 39 QB pressures in the 2024 season, has two years of eligibility left. His departure is seen as a significant loss for the UNC defense. Atkinson stands at 6-6 and weighs 265 pounds.
Penn State linebacker Ta’Mere Robinson, a redshirt sophomore, has also entered the transfer portal. Robinson, who appeared in 14 games last season and recorded 11 tackles, was expected to vie for a starting role following the departure of middle linebacker Kobe King to the NFL. Robinson, at 6-3 and 230 pounds, has three years of eligibility remaining.
Other players entering the portal include SMU offensive lineman Qae'Shon Sapp, a former four-star recruit and Florida State transfer, and SMU linebacker Zach Smith, who has four years of eligibility remaining. North Texas edge rusher Breylon Charles, who posted 30 tackles and 5 sacks last season and is 6-4, 270 pounds, and Florida Atlantic edge Chisom Ifeanyi, with 21 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, and an 82.2 PFF pass rush grade, have also declared their intentions to transfer. Georgia State edge Cam Williams, at 6-5 and 245 pounds, with 47 career tackles, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 sacks, and Texas Tech edge Isaac Smith, with 31 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2024, are also entering the portal.
