Rory McIlroy had a challenging start at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, missing opportunities for birdies and struggling with his chipping and putting. However, he rallied with five birdies in the last six holes, taking the solo lead at -6. Unfortunately, he bogeyed three straight holes due to poor putting and a bad drive, finishing the day with a disappointing performance. Meanwhile, Ludvig Aberg impressed with a strong start, playing four holes at 4-under. Thomas Detry and Patrick Cantlay also showcased excellent performances, with Detry shooting a 9-under 63 to take the solo lead at Spyglass Hill, closely followed by Cantlay at 8-under 64. Tom Hoge made a significant move, scoring 5-under for the round and moving into a tie-12th position in the tournament he has previously won.
Tom Hoge making a move today, 5-under for the round with three to go to move in a tie-12th in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, a tourney he's won.
Rory is -5 SG total after 12 holes today at Pebble @RickRunGood @JustinRayGolf. By the end of the day this will be one of the worst rounds of his career.
Ludvig Auberg is losing strokes on approach, and is five under par through seven holes at Pebble Beach 🫣
Ludvig Aberg played his first 4 holes today at Pebble Beach in 4-under. He is 232-under-par in official events worldwide since turning pro.
Thomas Detry capped off the first day at Spyglass Hill by shooting a 9-under 63 and taking the solo lead. Not too far behind him is Patrick Cantlay at 8-under 64. https://t.co/CkItyWkpkf
Got this text from a fellow golf media member, and Rory played the next four holes in 5 over. https://t.co/d3aM2xLtU4
Rory McIlroy's round: -Prob left three strokes out there on first seven holes, poor chipping and putting -Birdies five of six to take solo lead at -6 -Bogeys three straight mainly due to poor putting, one bad drive Still one hole to go!
Walked the front nine with Rory, and he was chipping it all over and missing putts, getting a little frustrated. Since started 1-under through seven? Five birdies on the last six holes. Putting balls right at pins.
Another horrible par from Rory on #5. Had a 30 foot chip for eagle. Should be at least -2. https://t.co/3cau2OHQd5
Rory first 2 holes and already giving away shots. Short wedge on one and hit it to 30 feet and an eagle pitch on par 5 #2 and hits it to 30 feet. His playing partner Aberg is -2 thru 2 and Rory is even. Not a good start for Rory.
