Vanderbilt would be lucky if Chris Mack took the gig. The caliber coach they’ve never had there. In a hoops league that has gotten so much better in the last decade with big name coaches, Mack is the obvious guy, if they can get him.
Look for Vanderbilt to have the following on its short list, per source. Chris Mack, Josh Schertz, Pat Kelsey and Kyle Smith.

Heird on the next coach "We've gotta have someone who is dying to coach this basketball program. They'll crawl here. That's how much this means to them."
Heird: "I do want somebody that's shown that they can build a program. Building a program doesn't mean winning a bunch of games. ... They've got to understand how to navigate that NIL landscape. That one's extremely important."
Heird says next coach must have the ability to “create that connective tissue with our fan base. . . Our fan base is dying for this program to be successful.” Adds that next coach will “have to be able to handle the enormity of this position.”
