Indiana University's basketball team, on a mission to snap their losing skid, has been bolstered by freshman Mackenzie Mgbako, who posted a 12-point and 12-rebound double-double against Illinois and continued his impressive form by shooting 47% from the 3-point line over the last 10 games. In a game against Iowa, Indiana led 13-7 early, with Xavier Johnson contributing assists and a 3-point play, and Malik Reneau turning an ankle. Kel'el Ware returned from injury to lead Indiana to a win over Iowa with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Against Maryland, Indiana quickly took control, leading 24-14 after the first quarter and 52-30 at halftime, shooting 59.4%. Despite Maryland's 75% shooting in the third quarter, which earned a standing ovation from the crowd, Indiana went on a 10-0 run after a Masonius technical foul and led wire to wire, finishing with an 87-73 victory. Holmes scored 23 points, Scalia added 22 for Indiana, while Brown-Turner led Maryland with 22 points and McDaniel contributed 15.
And that's it. No. 10 Indiana leads wire to wire in 87-73 win over Maryland. Brown-Turner scores 22, McDaniel 15. Holmes 23 for Indiana, Scalia 22
Indiana is on a 10-0 run since the Masonius tech. Up 82-65.
Maryland cuts the lead to 7, but then things fall apart a bit. A Masonius tech leads to a 4-point possession then a turnover ends up in a fastbreak layup. Just like that, Indiana lead back up to 13.
Standing ovation from the Maryland crowd at the end of 3Q. Maryland cuts the Indiana lead to 68-59 after a 29-point quarter. Maryland shot 75 percent in the quarter, Indiana 33.3. Brown-Turner up to 16 points, McDaniel 11, Briggs 10.
Halftime: Indiana 52, Maryland 30. Hoosiers opened a 14-2 lead and never looked back. Maryland just doesn't have enough firepower to keep up at the moment. Especially with Indiana shooting 59.4% with 8 threes. Brown-Turner leads Terps with 10. Scalia 14 for Indiana, Holmes 12.
Indiana is dominating the paint and are out to a 38-18 lead. 😤 https://t.co/BUQsEja4Sg
End 1Q: Indiana 24, Maryland 14. Gonna be a tough night for Maryland without Sellers. And gotta defend the arc better - Hoosiers are 6 for 14 from 3 pt range already.
Rough start for the Terps. Indiana firing away from deep and up 14-2.
Kel'el Ware returned from an ankle injury to lead Indiana to a win over Iowa with one of his best games of the season. 23 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals. The 19-year old 7-footer is shooting 11/25 for 3 through 18 games. https://t.co/97qraI3vDS
Mackenzie Mgbako shooting 47% over last 10 games from 3 after hitting his first two tonight for IU (he's 20-for-43). Xavier Johnson has two assists and a 3-point play. Malik Reneau stepped on an Iowa foot and turned an ankle, but otherwise, mostly perfect #iubb start. Lead 13-7.
Mackenzie Mgbako is finally coming into his own for the Hoosier. The freshman put up a 12 & 12 double-double at Illinois this past weekend. He’ll need to step up again to help snap Indiana’s losing skid #iubb @WHAS11 https://t.co/0uG36Oo9gp
